50-year-old Kogi woman hacked to death

Assailants have hacked a 50-year-old woman, Mrs Mary Edibo, to death.

The Kogi State Police Command, while confirming the killing, said the incident occurred last week in the Omala Local Government Area of the state.

The woman, who hailed from Agbenema-Ife, a surbub of Abejukolo, headquarters of the local government, was dealt several machete blows by the assailants while returning home from the neighbouring Agabifo village.

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased, a petty trader, returned from the local market earlier in the day, went to see her customers in the neighbouring village and was returning home when she met her death.

The incident came barely four days after a middle-aged man was similarly murdered in a nearby community.

The victim, Malam Amodu Ucha of the Ajodoma village, was also killed with machetes on his way to the farm.

Confirming the latest incident to journalists, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP William Ayah, said on April 10, 2020, the deceased’s brother, one Mr Abdul of the Agbenema community, reported the incident at Abejukolo at the divisional headquarters.

He said when the police team went to the scene of the incident, it was discovered that Mary sustained deep cuts on her head and parts of the face.

“Our men took the photograph of the scene and evacuated the remains for post-mortem examination, but the family declined,” Ayah explained.

He, however, said the police had commenced investigation into the matter and had mounted intensive surveillance around the communities and called on residents not to panic as the police were on top of the situation.

Meanwhile, the residents of Omala Local Government Area of the state have called on Governor Yahaya Bello and the security agencies to unravel those behind the incessant killing of people by gunmen in the area.

They noted that in recent times, some villages in Omala had become the epicentre for senseless killings by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, a development that had resulted in the death of scores of people and the burning down of some villages in the local government area.

They asked Bello to protect the lives and property of residents across the state by deploying a crack team of detectives in the area to bring those behind the dastardly acts to justice.

The Senior Special Assistant on Security in Omala Local Government Area, Ibrahim Aboh, has vowed to do everything in his powers to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Today as we celebrate the essence of christ jesus only one hymn comes to mind"Thou my everlasting Portion, More than friend or life to me, All along my pilgrim journey, Savior, let me walk with Thee.  Close to Thee, close to Thee,  Close to Thee, close to Thee;  All along my pilgrim journey,  Savior, let me walk with Thee. Not for ease or worldly pleasure, Not for fame my prayer shall be; Gladly will I toil and suffer, Only let me walk with Thee.  Close to Thee, close to Thee,  Close to Thee, close to Thee;  Gladly will I toil and suffer,  Only let me walk with Thee. Lead me through the vale of shadows, Bear me o'er life's fitful sea; Then the gate of life eternal May I enter, Lord, with Thee.  Close to Thee, close to Thee,  Close to Thee, close to Thee;  Then the gate of life eternal  May I enter, Lord, with thee. HAPPY EASTER CELEBRATION TO ALL.

Young Boy Who Predicted The “End” Of COVID-19 Has Updates, Tells How To Be Prepared For The Future

As the world’s youngest astrologer who made waves for his startling prediction of the COVID-19 virusway back in August last year.

In his initial video, the 14-year-old shared that the world would face a widespread disease and global crises due to planetary alignments.

This was met with a fair share of both awe and criticism after it resurfaced this month – the little boy gave some people hope that the virus would see a near end, while others felt that these were baseless assumptions pulled out of thin air (or rather, the cosmos).

Well, Abhigya is back with an update – and this time, things aren’t looking too good according to him.

It was first explained that the unlucky planetary axis causing this mess will be “broken” on said date, thus bringing back some order to society. However, the astrologer clarified this in his latest video, stating that the virus was only going to “gradually decrease” after the end of May.

He then asked people to understand his perspective differently, adding an important piece of information; “This small reduction in [the] coronavirus spread will be there only for 2 days.”

Turns out, we’ll have to wait a little longer. According to Abhigya, the planet Mercury will once go back into “retrograde”shortly after 29th May.

The teen predicts that things surrounding COVID-19 will only start to slow down from the month of July onwards.

In modern astrology among the social media generation, this phenomenon is believed to cause dips in communication, travel, and thinking, which can supposedly lead to frustration and distress.

From a scientific point of view, However, this refers to the illusion of Mercurys orbit appearing to move “backwards” – no actual evidence to back up your bad luck or mood swings here. After all, there’s a difference between astronomy and astrology, which is no stranger to the pseudoscience debate.

In his video, Abhigya claimed that it’s possible we will find a vaccine for COVID-19, but warned that “more viruses will come” along with an economic collapse towards the end of the year, based on his astrological analysis of planetary conjunctions.

COVID-19: People with over N5, 000 in bank won’t get palliatives ― FG

The Federal Government has said that people with over N5, 000 in their bank account will not benefit from the palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government also said that it will be using the mobile networks, to know people that top up the credit units for their phones with may be N100 or less.

Besides, the state governments will now be involved in the distribution of food items.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq stated this while briefing State House correspondents after meeting behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Minister also said that the Ministry will now focus on the urban poor as it carries out with President Buhari’s directive on the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on Nigerians.

According to her, “You are aware that the President in his broadcast of Monday 13th April, directed that we expand the beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer by one million and in this regard, we are going to focus more now on the urban poor.

“These are people who depend on the informal sector to earn their livelihood; they are daily wage earners and these are the people that we are really going to focus more on as well as people living with disabilities.”

Giving details on how to identify the beneficiaries of the stimulus, she said that the Ministry has three options to be adopted in selecting the beneficiaries of the scheme.

She said, “Well, we have three options; one, we are going to use the national social register that we already have, two, we are also going to focus on the urban poor as I mentioned, by using their verified BVN accounts to get them, that is, people that have an account balance of N5, 000 and below.

“We are also using the mobile networks, to know people that top up the credit units for their phones with may be N100 or less. Those are also people that we consider to be poor and vulnerable. So, these are the three options that we are exploring and I am sure that by the time we get this data we will be able to give this intervention.”

She, however, said only 25 percent of the population would benefit for now, adding that the scope might be expanded later.

She said, “Let me also say that we have a standard. 25 percent of the total population is what we will take out. It cannot go round everywhere but we are starting from somewhere.

“25 percent of let’s say the location of Lagos state for example is what is going to benefit from this intervention that we are doing. Going forward, we might expand it but this is what is obtainable for now.”

The Minister said her ministry intends to handover the distribution of food relief items to State governments, so as to address the challenges associated with distribution faced in the past.

She said, “On the issue of palliatives in terms of food relief, we have an emergency response plan in place. In the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, we have different functional groups.

“One of such groups, is that which deals with mass care, logistics and security, to be led by the National Emergency Management Agency under the Ministry and they have a structure; from National, States, down to Local Governments, where the various State Emergency Agencies and other security agencies are involved in this distribution.

“So far, we have already done the distribution together with the State authorities in these two states affected by the lockdown, together with the FCT but going forward, when we are going to give these food items, we are going to hand them over to the states because issues have come up, as at yesterday (Monday,).

“Our people were mobbed, some of them were attacked in the course of carrying out this assignment so the general conclusion is that we give this food relief directly to the State governments for them to distribute to the beneficiaries.”

EU Donation

Also speaking on the N21 billion support given to Nigeria by the European Union to fight COVID-19, the Minister said the donation is coming in form of medical equipment and provision of structures that will help Nigeria fight the deadly disease.

“This donation is coming in kind basically by way of medical equipment and also some structure to be put in place as a response to this COVID-19 pandemic.

“In that intervention, there are also humanitarian issues that would be addressed. As you are aware, this is a health emergency but at the same time it is also a humanitarian emergency so the Ministry is going to come in here because we are to coordinate all humanitarian interventions coming into the country by way of making sure that such interventions get to the poor and vulnerable in our society,” she said.
